The Y2k Catastrophe And Its Effects On Society - 1450 Words

The Y2K Catastrophe In The midst of a rising industrial climate, the 1990s was a time for change and expansion. On December thirty-first, 1999 nearly every developed nation in the world anticipated the oncoming new millennium. After strike of midnight, January first, 2000 a forecasted event would take place, and many in the world were anxious to comprehend the supposed inevitable. The occurrence of the Y2K scare changed the way the world revolves around technology during the time period, which has lasting residual effects on society. The fear that drove society and a complete farce was the idea that everything on which the modern world relied would simply come to a halt at the turn-of-the-century. This contemporary concern of the time over technology caused an alarming dissonance between people s daily realities and the threat of an impending apocalyptic future. At the height of computer development, for convenience purposes, digital programmers used two digit codes in place of the years. For example, instead of writing 1986, computer engineers simply dated programs with 86, the â€Å"19† was left out purposefully. Engineers compressed data usage to save storage, which at the time was very costly and took up unnecessary space. Eventually these programmers realized that once the year 2000 comes around then, the dates would revert to â€Å"00† which computers will assume to be 1900. A simple date change to humans would equal a major blunder to a computer. The Sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond - 1724 Words

In the sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond, airing on CBS in the late 90’s and early 2000’s we see an nuclear white family with two parents, two kids, grandparents, and a set of other relatives. The target audience appears to be within the age of 18-35 for this time period in comparison to other shows such as Frazier or Will and Grace. The family is very middle class oriented as far as the home, clothing, and jobs of the characters go. They live in the suburbs and are never too hurt for money. Playing into this story also comes the subtle humor and remarks at sexual acts that happen very often throughout each scene. However, you never actually see these sexual acts take place and there is no point of uncomfortable actions throughout this†¦show more content†¦The resolution comes when the drama is settled and all family members are satisfied with the solution. In direct correlation with the text that states, the action is set in motion when minor conflict situation s flare up and heightened verbally through deceit or insults, Everybody Loves Raymond is a prime example of a comedy formula (Potter, 205). The patterns of Everybody Loves Raymond are ultimately formulaic for the 90 s. Families are nucleic and typical of the 90 s middle class working white population. There is a mom who stays at home and does all of the house work and takes care of the kids, while the father is aloof of all of the housework and children but works most of the day and is the sole source of income. Both parents are alive and a constant source of conflict as they (especially the grandmother and mother, as women are often portrayed as catty) are present and cause embarrassment. The children are hardly the center of attention at all plot wise. Most plots are surrounding the conflict between family members, especially disagreements between the husband and wife and between the mother-in-law and the wife. There are rarely any African Americans, even though the show takes place in Long Island, which has a high African American population, even back when the show was being made. Other ethnicity are hardly ever

Looking at the scenario, the accounts procedure is highly significant for all the businesses because it acts just as fuel to the entire business procedures. The operation of B bakery has been expanding from past few years but it has observed that few of its key accounts have been lost. There is a focused team of accountants who deal with management of accounts, bookkeeping, recording and maintaining accounts. However the accounts can't be utilised for making competitive decisions and since the business has not been able to offer competitive prices there for a few of the major clients are already gone to the competitors. The most important thing which is required by the business processes is the information. Each and every operational in transactional information is needed for the processes and for business decision-making. Accounting is the procedure of the bakery which is linked to all other procedures. Therefore, forattaining furtherdetails of the accounts, all other processes also need to provide the information. Determine the systems requirements Investigation is the primary SDLC stage where the bakery starts to recognize, in detail, the requirements for system. System analysis includes a considerable level of attempt and cost and is thus accepted just once the management had determined that the systems progress project being considered has advantage and should be rewarded during this stage. Most observers would be in agreement than a lot of of the faults in developed system are straight visible to insufficient efforts in the investigation and design stages of the life cycle. Industrial researches demonstrate that 56% of systems difficulties are as per the poor necessities characterization, rather than 7% that are sourced by poor coding. In the bakery system, 82% of the attempt is because of poor necessities rather than 1% for poor coding. On the other hand, for lots of reasons, it is hard to get a right and absolute set ofneeds. This analysis can be segregated into three major apps that are data mining the requirements, structuring the requirements and looking out for different options and choosing the best. The last one is generally seen as the automatic outcome of the first two procedures. Buyer data mining the requirements, the beginning of the investigation is marked. The analyst has to collect the information on what the system has to do, from various sources. There are few traditional ways of gathering the system requirements such as surveying, interviews, and direct observations of the users. In modern times, there are few of the updated methods of gathering requirements for example prototyping. The requirement structuring is the procedure to utilise any form of systematically and standardised, well structured ways of modelling the practical world. Then, just like any accounting this software would be required to move this data from journals to the ledgers. By moving this information, the data is sorted into respective accounts. The AIS software would assist the managers in key decision-making because it would offer information from the databases and there would be evaluation of data as well. For key decision making, the management requires two major kinds of information i.e. the financial statements and the management reports. The AIS software would be utilised for laying out the internal controls for guaranteeing the dependability of information being created by the software, forguaranteeing the effectiveness of business operations and in compliance with the goals of the management. The Future of Nursing and School Nursing

Question: How will increasing your level of education affect how you compete in the current job market? How will increasing your level of education affect your role in the future of nursing? Answer: Healthcare The Institute of Medicine (IOM) released their landmark report in 2010, which is known as The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health. The landmark report addresses the key roles of the nurses in the context of rapidly changing health care landscape. There are approximately 3 million registered nurses in the U.S, who work day and night in different medical settings, such as public health centers, hospitals, homes as well as in schools (Cowell, 2012). There are many recommendations provided in the report presented by the IOM in order to establish a better nursing management. The recommendation 4 emphasizes, Increase the proportion of nurses with a baccalaureate degree to 80% by 2020. This seemed to be beneficial since the government is giving stress to increase the number of registered and trained nurse in the health care system. The government targeted to increase the number of trained nurses up to 80% by 2020 (Hassmiller Goodman, 2011). This is helpful for the new generation of younger people who are thinking to select nursing profession as their career. It is an opportunity for the new generation nurses to get more options in their working field. In recommendation 5, the IOM stated, double the number of nurses with a doctorate by 2020. This recommendation can be considered an opportunity in order to enhance the qualification of the present nurses who do not posses doctorate (Wilson et al., 2012). The doctorate is important for the nurses who do not have proper qualification for their job. Proper implementation of this recommendation is helpful to increase the professional degree of the nurses as well as increasing the level of quality care. The Recommendation 6 stated, Ensure that nurses engage in lifelong learning. This is a very important and crucial recommendation, which have a direct impact on the nursing profession. The nursing profession is a vast field, and the nurses need to have a vast knowledge to take care of different types of patients (Woods, 2013). From the aspect of a student of nursing graduation, it is important to increase the qualification to get more opportunities in the nursing field. The nursing field now offers a better opportunity to the new nurses as the government of the U.S. targets to increase the number of nurses with baccalaureate degree up to 80%. Therefore, the young nurses have an opportunity to grab the offer provided by the government in order to increase the qualification. The increasing level of education may have a direct effect on the nurse's role in the context of future nursing. The increasing level of education, in turn, will be helpful to enrich nursing knowledge.
